Building a Career: A Journey in Construction

A Journey in Construction

Brent Anderson, a craft professional with Nabholz’s industrial services, installs and relocates machinery, and more.

“The best thing about a career in construction is that you’re always going to have a job,” Anderson said. “Construction is never going to go away. No matter where you go, you’ll be able to take those skills with you.”

Anderson completed his Millwright Apprenticeship in February while working toward his degree. Working with the Nabholz partnership with Ozarks Technical Community College (OTC), his completed apprenticeship training counted for 45 college credit hours, leaving 18 general education credits to complete the associate degree.

Anderson recently completed his associate degree from OTC. Anderson has been working on developing his career with Nabholz for several years through Nabholz University.

“I wanted an associate degree, but I knew I didn’t want to go through a full two-year program. I’m a foreman, I’ve got a baby at home, and this was just a really hassle-free option. Being able to use my apprenticeship toward the degree and Nabholz paying for it through tuition reimbursement removed two big barriers for me. I was able to get it done in a year and a half instead of two.”

During his time with Nabholz, Anderson has also completed several in-house leadership programs through Nabholz University.

At Nabholz, we are always looking for ways to meet the needs of the growing workforce. Nabholz University has a catalog of programs for in-house development and several that are also open to the public. That includes our four-year Carpentry Apprenticeship Program as well as our Millwright Apprenticeship Program, which combines structured coursework with more than 8,000 hours of on-the-job training. Both follow apprenticeship models recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor and are available to more than just Nabholz employees.

The goal isn’t simply to prepare someone for the job they have today. It’s to give people opportunities to continue building their skills, taking on new challenges, and create careers to grow our people for a better tomorrow.
