Growing The Industry-

The future of the construction industry sits in classrooms across the country today. By working side-by-side with school districts, Nabholz introduces students to rewarding careers through classroom engagement and our hands-on Youth Apprenticeship Program. For Donta and Davion King, one such school visit resulted in two brothers joining the Nabholz family. 

These two young brothers were students at Little Rock Southwest High School and attended classes at Little Rock Metropolitan Career Technical Center. During a session of class with Toyoshima Gray, a technical math teacher, our Director of Workforce Development Sheila Burroughs spoke with the students about Nabholz.  

“Students are different every year, but their desire is the same,” said Ms. Gray. “They always want one thing — exposure. They want to be exposed to the possibilities that are available to them.”  

That exposure can make all the difference. Whether students pursue careers in skilled trades, project management, estimating, or other construction professions, they must first learn about that industry. Burroughs introduced that to Donta and Davion and presented Nabholz’s Youth Apprenticeship Program as a way to discover their potential while gaining real-world experience. 

Joining The Nabholz Family 

Donta and Davion chose to join the Youth Apprenticeship Program after encouragement from their teacher, Ms. Gray. 

“We thought we were going to do a lot of cleaning, but Nabholz taught us how to use tools, drills, read blueprints, and do blocking,” Davion said. “We learned a lot from Nabholz’s youth apprenticeship. They treated us right.” 

By investing in young talent today, Nabholz is helping build the skilled workforce of tomorrow, like Donta and Davion who are now full-time laborers and are pursuing the operator training program offered by Nabholz University.
