Our House Begins Construction of Children’s Center in Little Rock

July 12th, 2013 - By

On Wednesday morning Our House held a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off construction of a new 19,000-square-foot Children’s Center. Our House is a non-profit organization that operates the only programs in Arkansas specifically for homeless children. Expected to open by May 1, 2014, the new center will give Our House enough space to serve 142 children every day.

According to Executive Director Georgia Mjartan, Our House’s purpose is to permanently lift people out of poverty. She explained, “It will be a space where 90 school-age homeless and near homeless children can be any time school is out, as well as 50 infants to 5-year-olds who, you know, their parents need to find work, and they can’t do that if they can’t afford childcare.” The Children’s Center will offer both a child development center and an out-of-school youth program.

The Nabholz Construction team dedicated to seeing this $4.4 million project through to completion includes Superintendent Matt Troillet, Sr. Project Manager Beth Maris, EVP of Preconstruction Michael Parker, Preconstruction Specialist Jamie Booe, Project Executive Jake Nabholz, and CEO Bill Hannah. The building was designed by Herron Horton Architects.

We’re proud to be a part of this project, and we thank Our House for trusting Team Nabholz to build a place that will make a difference in the lives of so many children and families in Central Arkansas.
