Tulsa Zoo Elephant Preserve

This groundbreaking $31 million construction project transformed the Tulsa Zoo’s elephant facilities into one of the largest and most advanced exhibits in the nation. The project includes construction of a new 37,204-square-foot elephant preserve and 7,661 square feet of renovations to existing facilities to enhance guest experiences and support comprehensive elephant care.

The project’s scope included:

New elephant barn

  • Expansive outdoor habitats
  • Accommodations for a multi-generational elephant herd
  • Provisions for multiple male elephants
  • Privacy yards for new mothers and geriatric animals

Existing facility renovations

  • Upgraded outdoor exhibit yard
  • Updated barn
  • Indoor and outdoor guest viewing areas
  • Interpretive center

Nabholz’s industrial team also transported the elephants to the new enclosure, which required careful attention to animal safety. Our team utilized advanced 3D modeling to integrate complex systems seamlessly. This included under-slab routing for controls, hydraulic systems, containment, and radiant floor heating — all to ensure the elephants’ comfort and safety during transportation.
