Wheel Truing Machine Installation

Nabholz’ railroad team recently completed the installation of a wheel truing machine for KC Streetcar in Kansas City, Missouri. The installation of a new NSH USA- M2 milling machine weighing 47,000 lbs. will help to maintain the integrity of the train wheels and prevent damage to the tracks for the popular passenger vehicles used in the Kansas City metro area.

During the project, several Nabholz teams collaborated, deploying riggers, millwrights, railroad service technicians, and electricians from three office locations. The team utilized one of their fleet’s Versa-Lift 100/140 specialized rigging lifts for the project. This lift can pick up and carry over 140,000 lbs. and is the largest model made by Versa.

Once arriving on site, Nabholz’ team of riggers, millwrights, and craft professionals unloaded all the machinery and set it into position, with the aid of a rigging lift, based on the layout provided by the client. After placement, our team of railroad specialists precisely leveled, aligned, assembled, anchored, and grouted the equipment in place per the manufacturer’s specifications.

Throughout the project, Nabholz teams consulted in the planning process, providing project estimates as well as value engineering during bid, buyout, and project procurement phases.

This project was like many of the projects Nabholz performs: Moving equipment out of an operating plant and into a new space within a narrow window of time. Want to collaborate on your next project? Learn more here.
