Community Youth Services of Southern Oklahoma: New Children’s Shelter

Community Youth Services of Southern Oklahoma, a dedicated youth service agency, partnered with Nabholz to create a safe and supportive environment for homeless and at-risk youth. This facility provides essential services, ranging from temporary residential care to outpatient mental health services, ensuring the well-being of children and families in the region.

The new children’s shelter spans 16,327 square feet and features a comprehensive array of facilities designed to support up to ten children, from birth through 18 years of age. This includes a ten-bedroom emergency residence, ensuring that children in need of supervision, refuge from neglect, abandonment, or abuse had a safe place to stay.

The shelter also included a recreation room and a play therapy room, providing therapeutic and recreational activities for the residents. Additionally, an administration and counseling wing facilitates the provision of outpatient mental health services, including Trust Based Relational Intervention, one of the few such services available in Southern Oklahoma.

The facility features an education center that doubles as a wind refuge area, a commercial kitchen with a food pantry and dining hall, and ample covered outdoor living and green space. The project also comprised a new parking lot with 50 spaces to accommodate staff, visitors, and service providers.
